Emma Watson

Emma Charlotte Duerre Watson was the daughter of British parents Jacqueline Luesby (a lawyer) and Chris Watson (a French mother). They made the move to Oxfordshire at the age of five years old, and attended the Dragon School. At the age of six, Emma was aware that she wanted to be an actress and, for a number of years, she studied at the Oxford branch of Stagecoach Theatre Arts, a part-time theatre school in which she studied singing, dancing and acting. At ten years old Emma was already involved in Stagecoach productions as well as school productions. In 1999, casting began for Harry Potter and the Sorcerers Stone (2001) which was the movie adaptation of British author J.K. Rowling's bestselling novel. Emma was found by casting agents through her Oxford theater teacher. After eight continuous auditions David Heyman revealed to Emma and Rupert Grint (other applicants), that they had been chosen to play Hermione Gringer, Harry Potter, and Ron Weasley. Emma's first cinematic screen appearance was with Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone (2001). The film set records for opening-day ticket sales and opening week-end takers and was the highest-grossing film in 2001. The film's performances as well as those of its three young actors received praise from critics. The Daily Telegraph, a British newspaper that is widely published, described Emma's performance as "admirable." Emma received five awards for her performance in the movie, including the Young Artist Award, for the most outstanding Young Actress in the Feature Film. Following the debut film of the highly successful series, Emma became one of the most famous actresses in the world. Hermione Granger continued to be her role for almost ten years in the Harry Potter films. Emma was awarded two Critics' Choice Awards nominations from Broadcast Film Critics Association.
