Dolly Rebecca Parton

Dolly Rebecca Parton was born on January 19 1946 in Pittman Center, Tennessee and raised in Sevierville, Tennessee to Avie Lee Parton, who was a housewife & Robert Lee Parton, a tobacco farmer. She was present on Knoxville TV at 12 years old. When she was 13, she recorded on the label of a small company, and performing on the Grand Ole Opry. After finishing the high school in 1964, she relocated to Nashville to launch her country-singing career. Carl Dean, an asphalt-paving businessman, was drawn to her and they tied the knot on May 30th the 30th of May, 1966. Porter Wagoner saw her singing and arranged for her to perform on The Porter Wagoner Show (1961). She was on the show for seven years, her duets gained fame and she was part of Porter Wagoner's band at the Grand Ole Opry. She also sold records and toured. When her 1970 hit "Joshua" hit the top spot, her popularity was just too high to rival the fame of his. In 1974, she set out on her own and recorded duets with his. She separated from him to be a singer-songwriter on her own in 1974. Dolly was a popular singer/songwriter. Dolly was honored with many Country Music Association awards (1968-1971 1971, 1975-1976, 1975-1976). Dolly received her first Grammy award in 1977 for Best Female Country Vocal Performance. Dolly's first film appearance was in 9 to 5 (1980) In the film, she got an Oscar nomination for writing the title tune. She also received Grammy Awards 2, 3, Best Country Song, and Best Female Country Vocal Performance for the track "Nine to Five." Further fame was earned through her appearances in The Best Little Whorehouse in Texas (1982) and as along with Rhinestone (1984), with the track "Tennessee Homesick Blues". Dolly Parton Enterprises is her media empire that is worth $100 million. In 1986, she established Dollywood in the form of a Tennessee theme park located in Pigeon Forge. This was to celebrate her Smoky Mountain childhood. She was a part of the television show Dolly (1987 TV Show) as her character. For "Trio", she won the Best Country Performance Duo or Group with Vocals Grammy in 1988.
